COHN CASTLE

My wife in our house before we bought it. No coat closet. And no linen closet upstairs. That's going to be a problem. Also as you'll see later, the fridge on the other side of that wall juts out into the kitchen in an impractical way.

So i designed something that fixes all 3 issues at once. Fill up that open space with a coat closet, a linen closet on top of that for upstairs, and recess the fridge in that space as well on the other side.

Voila! I also photoshopped the colors, the rug and the table before we did anything. it really is great being able to plan ahead like this.

As I said, the fridge jutted out, giving whomever about 2 feet to walk through to the kitchen.

On the opposite side of those shelves is that open space where we planned to build the closets.

Time to make some room

The downstairs chill area/ my studio was wall to wall rug, which would have been great if the previous owner's dogs didn't piss all over them to the point a damp day brought out the smell, even after they were shampooed. UGH.

I tried a few versions of floor. Too dark, and would make the room feel smaller, even though the studio (an addition on the house) has a higher ceiling. The chill area would look tiny then. No go. Next...

Grey didn't really jibe with the wall color. Too drab. On a rainy day, it would depress even the happiest of people.

Bingo! the warm floor looks great when the sun hits it, and it plays on the cool wall color.

The floor is now in. I went rug shopping, but found nothing. However, one place had a throw away that I loved, but was too small. I googled it & found 2 8x10's! So i photoshopped them in first to see how they'd look

I needed to chop a foot off of each rug at a cost of $31. the 2 rugs cost $250. A lot of the other 8x10's we looked at stores started at $300 a pop more or less. A little elbow grease....
